Yoga can give your skin a natural glow

We all want to get that glow in our skin. If you are a yogi, the good news is that you don’t have to settle for creams or beauty packages to get there. Often times, premature wrinkling is due to stress caused by unhealthy lifestyles. Smoking, alcohol and detrimental eating habits can take a toll on your health. Acne can be caused by hormonal changes in the body and improper digestion can cause pimples. Why do we outline these things when talking about glowing skin? It’s because these are some common hindrances to glowing skin.

So how can yoga help your skin?

It does so by several practices. There are some asanas that help increase blood circulation to the face. Cobra, fish, plow, shoulder stand and child’s pose are a few poses that you can incorporate into your practice to increase your glow. These poses are known to increase blood flow to the head, which in return helps create clean, glowing skin.

Remember we mentioned how improper digestion can affect your facial glow in the beginning? Yoga can help to improve the digestive process. Poses such as: the wind-relieving pose, kneeling pose, bow pose and techniques like nadi shodhan (alternate nostril breathing technique) pranayama can improve your digestion tremendously.

Have you ever heard of facial yoga? 20 minutes of facial yoga can help tighten the face muscles. Facial yoga includes practices such as: massaging the jaws, massaging the eyebrows and the kiss and smile technique to exercise the facial muscles.

In addition to the yoga practices outlined here, the following lifestyle additions can help you improve your facial glow:

1.     Drink a lot of water: Drinking a lot of water has many benefits to the body. To make it even more effective, add lemon and honey to lukewarm water. This will detoxify the system and keep the skin healthy and clean.

2.     Improve your diet: Are you eating an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables? If not, start doing it for your glow’s sake!

3.     Get plenty of rest: Ever heard the term beauty sleep? It’s a real thing. Your body needs ample amounts of rest to recover and shine.

There are many products out their in the market that promise healthy skin. As you may already know, chemicals are not the best things for your skin. So, if you must apply something, opt for the Ayurvedic and natural remedies. Most importantly, don’t forget to smile. The power of a sincere smile can bring a ray of sunshine to you and the others around you. :)
