POwer Flow

Break a sweat | Move | power up

If you are looking to tone up, build strength and burn calories, this is the class for you. The Power Flow is designed to get your blood pumping with quick movements. It is very similar to a vinyasa flow, as we will do vinyasas combined with more focused core and toning work. The quick movements and flows will warm your body up so you can do some deeper stretches to loosen up the muscle groups that will be targeted on that day. If you are familiar with vinyasa flows, you will find this class to be somewhat closely aligned with what is mostly labeled a power vinyasa or a hot vinyasa class.

A key characteristic of this flow is that in the first half of the class, each breath will be matched with a movement. In other words, it’s one breath, one movement. The idea is to get your blood pumping and get you warmed up so you can do a few deep stretches to loosen up a bit. A key component of this class is core work that involves holding and pulsing. So, be ready to push your limits. We will also hold several poses for extended time to strengthen targeted muscle groups. Perhaps you can focus on the: “No pain, no gain” chant to get through the extended holds :)

Of course all that hard work must pay off … right? So, we will start winding down towards the end of the class with some inversions where more advanced students will practice their headstands and other preferred inversions. Please note that I will not be teaching students new poses in the Power Flow as it is more focused on toning and rapid movements. So, if you are interested in learning new poses, perhaps you should join the Hatha Flow. Once we get out of the inversions, we will gently make our way to the most important pose … Shavasana (resting pose). It’s important to do a quick body scan and assess our bodies after each class. I find my Shavasana to be the most exhilarating after a challenging flow.
