What is yoga?
Yoga is not a purely physical practice. Yes, the asanas do require one to break a sweat. They do have physical benefits. But, in its essence, it’s not about the physical benefits. The physical benefits are just the cherry on top of the cake. Yoga encourages one to be excellent in all actions.
What are asanas?
The classical meaning of asana is: Sthiram sukham aasanam: Steady, comfortable sitting. In my classes, we use various asanas (poses) that are specialized for creating physical strength, balance, body toning and injury recovery. My asanas are derived from Hatha, Ashtanga, Bikram and other modern yoga styles.
What's pranayama?
In basic terms, pranayama is a breathing technique. There are various techniques of pranyama like: Kapalbhathi, brahmi, nadi shodan, etc. Pranayama techniques are useful to bring awareness to your breath and increase your focus before doing the asanas. To practice pranyama, one needs to hold the breath.
